Well, what a weekend! This weekend has been in the diary for a while as 'The Shed Weekend' (I know that's quite sad). Also as it has been Easter weekend and my parents had booked to come down, it would only be right to rope them in to help out down the plot - voluntarily of course.
The weekend started as I imagine many bank holiday weekends do with a trip to B&Q. Over the past couple of weeks I have been looking at sheds for the plot (yes, it has been thrilling) and had decided that a simple 6ft x 4ft shed would be perfect for our little patch. So off to B&Q we went for a shed and wood for our raised beds.
The shed, all wrapped up and ready to go! |
As you can see the shed came in many, many pieces. luckily enough my dad can turn his hand to pretty much anything and it wasn't long before the shed was unpacked and spread out over the plot.
By lunchtime, with some elbow grease and perseverance we had got the sides and the roof on!
The rest of the day was mainly filled by felting the roof, hanging the door and by far the most difficult part - putting in the window. While we were putting up the shed, my mum and my wife were tackling the job of deep weeding what will be the raised beds - a job not for the feint hearted due to the huge amount of bindweed that has built up over the past few years.
---
The next day with the shed built I decided to take the job of deep weeding the front of the plot while The wife set about painting the shed, as unpainted it looked like some kind of beacon, from across the allotment - as you can see from the picture above. Mum took on weeding another one of the raised beds. This was after Mum and The wife went and bought a composter and water butt as they were on sale from the council.
While this was all happening Dad set about building four raised beds at the front of the plot.
This weekend has seen a real change in the plot and this has been thanks to mum and dad, with their help we have been able to build a shed and the raised beds and weed a good percentage of the plot - so a massive thanks goes out to them!
To finish i'm attaching a cracking picture Mum took of the plot as we were leaving, it really does show much we have done and achieved. Until the next time you can follow me on twitter by clicking the button on the top right of the page or just click here. I also really appreciate your comments!
After just under a full month the plot is looking brill! |
